Izzy Dolls

Hi Everyone,

As in the past several years, we will be knitting and donating Izzy Dolls to the Georgian College Nurses who will be going to the Dominican Republic again this year.

This April 23rd, students will be heading there for 10 days for a hands-on-educational experience which will aid the poorest communities
in that country, bringing medications, vitamins and medical care.

But even more than that, they will be bringing Izzy Dolls for the children who have nothing to play with but sticks, stones and empty water bottles which have been tossed in the trash.

The story of this incredible mother who designed and knit these little dolls, and of her courageous son, epitomizes what Canada is all about and is how I feel Canada is portrayed when we continue to send these little pieces of Canadian heart and spirit out into the world!
This year I thought we would have a couple of evenings at the store to work on them together. As different people seem to like doing different parts of the dolls, we could share the knitting, sewing up, putting on the hair and embroidering the faces...as the old saying goes "many hands make light work!"

You, of course, are welcome to work on them at home also. The more we have the better!  Please note they would like to have the faces done in brown or black yarns. They are quick to knit ( or crochet), and you can use up any scraps of yarn, as they don’t take much.  So, for anyone who would like to come out and work on them,we will be meeting on the following come one, or two or the them all whatever works for you.

Wednesday February the 12th. from 7 til  9 p.m.
Thursday,February 27th, from 7p.m. til 9 p.m.
Wednesday,March  26th 7 til 9 p.m.

So, bring your needles (the pattern says 2.25mm but I am sure we usually used about 3mm , they can be knit flat or in the round)  and bits of yarn (if you don’t have any I am sure there will be lots to share) and lets get knitting!!

They also need knitted face clothes, tooth brushes and little soaps. The deadline for all these little treats to be handed in to the Purple Sock is April 3rd!!! Hope we have tons of goodies to send off to these deserving children...thank you so much.

Thanks and Happy Knitting
Lynn
