Double knitting

We will be learn how to make a two sided fabric using 2 colours and a pattern. As this makes a double thick fabric and is reversible,  it is great for mittens.

We will be doing a small sample, and then start working on a pair of mittens that will be double layered and reversible, with a cute sheep on them! This is a great technique  for colour work!

Basic knitting skills required and some familiarity with knitting in the round is an asset.

This will be a three week class , this includes the pattern but not the yarn.

Fee: $40.00 & HST  plus your yarn
4mm DPn’s or long circular to do magic loop, or two circulars

Date and time:
Wednesday March 11th , 18th and 25th.

Magic Cake Ruffle Shawl

Workshop leader: Lynn Stitchman

Doesn't this sound intriguing!!?  This is a great way to use up all those little bits of leftover fingering weight (sock ) yarn. This shawl uses about 150gms of  sock weight  yarn joined to make a “Magic cake” with a niffy little knot that we will learn.

Here is a link to the pattern on Ravelry

These are all  sorted into piles by weight and then we will pick our colours for our shawls, learn to do the knot and put them together and start our Magic Cake Ruffle shawls!

We will be using my yarns this time but you might want to make a second or third one with yarns of your own, each shawl will be unique depending on the colours you pick.
Basic knitting skills required.

Fee: $40.00 includes pattern and all the yarn to knit the shawl

3.75mm  circular needle required.

Wednesday, March 4th  from 7 pm til 9 pm

Up coming knit alongs

Please note these  are knit along's and we  will be learning together, there is no fee to attend but I do ask that you buy your wool and pattern through me.

The First one is for a Fair-isle-tote which is knit and then felted.

This is a great project to learn 2 colour knitting and because it will be felted afterwards,  it hides any small mistakes you might make!!

Here is a link to look at in on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fair-isle-tote-2
We will work on this Wednesdays from 1 til 3 pm for the month of Feburary   starting on the 4th which gives us 4 weeks to finish this.  I have lots of colours of Cascade 220 to choose from.

Basic knitting skills required. You  also need to have some knowledge of working in the round.
You will need a 5mm circular needle for this and also a set of 5mm dpns.

Please let me know if you will be joining us as space is limited  and I will need to email you a copy of the pattern ahead of time.

Children’s sweater

Lets knit a childs sweater together! Estelle yarns will be putting out a program to knit this sweater, week by week over   5 weeks with lots of help.
We will be starting this on Thurday March 5th  1-3 pm So lets do it together....I will have lots of choices of colours once I receive more info from them. This is a good way to start sweater knitting as it will be small, if you don’t have anyone to make it for there are several groups that the store helps support that would be more than happy to receive them.

They have some information about it and will be posting more on there blog. So go take a look!!

Please let me know if you are interested as always space is limited.

Happy Knitting Lynn

Days for Girls

          Hi Everyone,

Please read the below email I have received from Barb. You were all very generous last year with donations to this very worthy cause, and I am sure some of you will be able to help out again this year. If ,like me, you don’t know what gros grain ribbon is, here is a link I found with info about it
There is a poster attached about the sewing day.

Thanks and Happy Knitting!

Lynn

Barb Carswell again and I'm here to say thanks for all your help last year with the girls hygiene kits, and to invite you to a "'sewing bee". Coldwater United Church is having a sewing project day to recognize International Woman's Day in March and we'll be making more kits to help these young women on their way to being the next " movers and shakers" of their countries through education.  Please find attached a poster with the details.
Like last year we need 100% flannel and cotton donations, so if you have any remnants and would like to donate them, Lynn at The Purple Sock  will hold them for me to pick up.  The other sewing item we are looking for is 1/2 in. gros grain ribbon - any colour or pattern, in lengths of
1 1/2 m. minimum.
Thanks for being part of the solution and I hope  some of you will join us!!

Adventures in Socks

Hi Everyone

I am so happy to let you know that we will again be running a Sock of the Month Club.

Cathy McCracken  will be running if for me this time around, she is a excellent and very enthusiastic sock knitter always trying something a little bit different. I am sure you are really going to enjoy the socks she has planned for you. I might even find time to knit some of them myself!!

The details are listed below , if you have any questions just let me know.  Please let me know if you are planning to join us.

Happy Knitting Lynn and Cathy

Adventures in Socks (Sock of the Month Club)

Starting Thursday January 29th at 7:00 pm we are embarking on Adventures in Socks!  We will meet the last Thursday  of each month from now til May at The Purple Sock, get our new pattern, pick out some lovely yarn, and get ready for a new pair of socks! Each month will have a different yarn and pattern, with a little of everything hand knit socks has to offer.....

The cost will be $35 plus HST  per month which includes the yarn, pattern and assistance from resident sock adventurer Cathy.  There is no pressure to attend every month, but that little deadline may help prevent the dreaded ‘second sock syndrome’ as you try to finish your pair for the next round.

You need to have knit socks before and be comfortable knitting in the round in order to join in as this is not a beginner sock class.  For the first adventure please bring your favourite sock needles and some scrap sock yarn to try some new techniques that evening. Whatever needles you are comfortable using ie. dpn’s or circulars they will work for our first sock.

Also if you have a tablet or phone that you use for Ravelry, bring it along so we can keep our projects up to date.
