Children's Sweater Knit along.

Please note this  is a knit along and we  will be learning together, there is no fee to attend but I do ask that you buy your wool and pattern through me.

Lets knit a childs sweater together! Estelle yarns will be putting out a program to knit this sweater, week by week over   5 weeks with lots of help.

We will be starting this on Thursday March 5th  1-3 pm So lets do it together....I will have lots of choices of colours once I receive more info from them. This is a good way to start sweater knitting as it will be small, if you don’t have anyone to make it for there are several groups that the store helps support that would be more than happy to receive them.

They have some information about it and will be posting more on there blog. So go take a look!!

Off to the Dominican again!

Hello everyone,

Many of you will remember that we have made Izzy Dolls for the Nursing
and Early Childhood Educations students from Georgian College, to take to
the Dominican Republic.

This April 23rd,students will be heading there again for 10 days for
a hands-on educational experience which will aid the poorest communities in
that country, bringing medications, vitamins and medical care. But even more
than that, this year, they hope to bring Izzy Dolls, little sun hats, and some adorable little finger puppets! So that is where you come in...if you feel like helping to knit    for this,  choose whichever project ( or projects!) you would like to make, that would be great!

I do have a basket of some odds and ends of yarn at the shop if you are in need of colours for any of these projects, just stop by and pick out some colours.

If reading this on the blog , just send me a line and I will send you the finger puppet pattern and if you need a suggestion for a hat pattern just let me know. Below are a couple of  links to the Izzy doll patterns. If you don’t know what they look like just google Izzy dolls and you will find lots of pictures of them.

So lets get knitting !!  Please drop off your contributions by April 1st and rest assured, we will make certain that they go to little ones who will treasure them!!  Thanks so much for any help you can give on this project.

Whooo...whooo!!

Hello Everyone,

Sometimes I just LOVE making something FUN! And while I love making
sweaters, hats, socks, cool scarves and cowls, every once in a while, I just
love making something silly and funky and adorable, and this is it!

These owls and hedgehogs are so darned cute!  Knitted flat, they are
super fast and super easy to make up..great for the grandkids and those who
are young at heart.

The yarn is soft and glittery and with some small bits from your stash for
the feet and eyes, and a couple of cute buttons....you have the cutest
little toys around!

If you get a chance, drop by The Purple Sock and check out our front
window...lots of colourful owls perched on a branch, just what we need in
the midst of all this white stuff, lol!

A New Feature

Hello Everyone,

Something exciting is happening at The Purple Sock! I just love being a shop owner, but sometimes I wish there were three or four of me, lol!

So, I am pleased to introduce Cathy and our new "Help Centre"! Cathy is an accomplished, creative and intuitive knitter with a mathematical mind, which is just an amazing combination.

Cathy will be here on Friday afternoons for a  two hour session  1:30 pm till 3:30 pm  to help you with ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! Problems with a new cast on? Screwed up your cable? Not sure how to pick up stitches around the neck of your sweater?  Need help reading your pattern?  Totally cannot figure out the heel of your sock? Or just wanting to learn how to knit   Well, Cathy will help you with all of the above and more..and all for $10.00 .
This will be limited to 5 people  to give you lots of help so you must pre register. No drop in’s please.

That's right, you can come and sit for two hours, get oodles of help and attention, and walk out feeling confident and secure that you can proceed on your own.

If you want a private lesson this can also be arranged at the rate of $12.00 per hour .

Rest assured, I am still here to help with the little stuff.... dropped stitches, a question on your pattern....any other quick questions that I can help with, and still run my shop, lol!

So, The Purple Sock is growing with more yarns, more classes and more offerings to help you, my friends and customers, become better knitters!

Give me a call, or  shoot me an email and sign up for the next "Help Centre with Cathy!" Starting this  Friday February the 13th ....
Happy Knitting,
Lynn
