This is the perfect cross between a sweater and
poncho...A Swoncho!!!

Hello everyone,

Fall is here and winter is coming, so this is the perfect transition piece! This KAL will
be run by my friend and super knitter Sonya, and will start on Wednesday, October 3rd from 1:30 to 3:30. and run for as many weeks as we need to get most people finished it.

We will be using a gorgeous Estelle Alpaca and Merino yarn in  23  lovely  shades.

The swoncho is here at the shop for you to
come in and try on, and fall in love with! It might look a bit strange  but once you try it on you will be amazed at how great it feels. Also check out the pictures on Ravelry as the ones I took do not show if off so well.  The link is below.

I cannot wait to choose my colours and start this project with you all!  As always,  this is a KAL not a class so there is no charge but  I do  appreciate you purchasing the pattern and yarns from me. This is going to be a fun one for sure!

Happy Knitting,
Lynn

Crochet-a-Long with me!!.

Hello everyone!

I love throwing something different into the mix every once in a while, and this is it!
A “Crochet-a-Long”!

While we have had many KAL’s, this CAL from King Cole is a beautiful blanket called “Flowers in the Window”. In this gorgeous colourway, the kit comes with 34 balls of lovely, soft, DK weight acrylic yarn that will crochet up into a gorgeous squishy heirloom.

This project is perfect for even the very novice crocheter. If you read this blog post they talk about that. Don't be confused by  the date that they say it starts, that is the date that you would receive the yarn requirements and hook sizes etc. The actual patterns do not start til Oct. 8th. As Estelle has made us up kits we don't need to worry about picking yarns as in your kit you will have everything you need. As an added bonus I will include the crochet hock in the size you need!!
http://estelleyarns.com/blog/

As always, this is not a class per se....a different clue will be released every two weeks, and we will help each other through this exciting project!

The kit costs $138.00 and the CAL will start on Friday, October 12th from 1:30 to 3:30pm and we will meet every other week.....shoot me an email to let me know you are interested and I will add your kit to the order. See you soon!

More Gorgeous Ontario Yarn!
View this email in your browser

Hello everyone,

I love bringing you local yarns, so when I found this one, I just had to order it! From Napanee, "All Dyed Up" is a stunning hand painted fingering weight yarn.

In two blends, one with Super-wash Merino and Nylon, and the other with the Merino, nylon and a lucious touch of cashmere, both blends have 365 metres and are perfect for socks, shawls or sweaters.

If one of these colours strikes your fancy I am happy to set it aside for you.  As you know with hand dyed yarns you might never see the same colour again!! I am also happy to pop things in the mail if you can't get in.

Hope to see you soon!

Looking for some summer

activities for the kids?!

Hello everyone,

Well, summer is truly here, hot weather and all, but when the next rainy day arrives, you will be a real hit when you bring out these kits for everyone!

From the knitting looms which are super easy to use and let your young crafters create hats and cowls and scarves, to the fantastic fun of Kumihami, a Japanese braiding technique that produces friendship bracelets, keychains, and a myriad of funky, braided items.

Then, to really ramp things up, the weaving sticks are terrific fun, making guitar straps, belts, headbands..you name it! And finally, a small loom will make it easy to make coasters, doll blankets or whatever else your young "designers" can come up with!

In addition to keeping everyone busy on a rainy day, these kits make wonderful birthday gifts for the "tween/teen" age group...it is never  too early to get them started on using their hands to create  practical and beautiful items for themselves or for gifts for friends and family! Hope to see you soon...

Oh! The JOY of silk!!

Hello everyone!

I am so excited to showcase this Juniper Moon yarn...the ancient Irish name "Aine", means "brilliance and radiance" and that certainly applies to this 100% Mulberry silk. Made in Italy, this lace weight silk is simply fabulous, so very soft and silky, it simply flows through your fingers as you knit.

With stunning colours and some lovely accompanying patterns, this is perfect for a light summer top or evening shawl...and as it is now FINALLY officially spring, that means summer cannot be far behind!

I hope to see you soon, if you see a colour that speaks to you, give me a call or an email and I will set it aside for you.

Happy Knitting!

What a great gift!

Hello everyone!

I have always loved owning a yarn shop, for many reasons...showcasing local and exotic yarns, meeting great people, providing classes so people can fall in love with knitting..all of the above!

But one of the main reasons, is that I get to see the most amazing local creations! When this gentleman came into the shop with his shawl pins, I just fell in love with them!  And I knew that you would too...with woods from as far away as Africa and as local as Hanover, Ontario....these adorable pins are the perfect gift for the knitter in your life, or the perfect accompaniment to that stunning shawl you just knit for yourself.

I adore the little chickadee, and of course, the cardinal is striking, and the sweet sheep are just so darned cute! So, pop on in and check them out..see you soon!

Happy Knitting,
Lynn

Irish eyes are smiling!!

Hello everyone!

Well, the Hedgehog yarns that I have been waiting for has
finally winged its way across the Atlantic to my little shop, and oh, the colours!! The photos do not do the colours justice, but they remind me of the fields of heather in Ireland, the deep yellow of the gorse, and the darker, rich shades on the Cliffs of Mohr.

Let's start with their "Twist Sock".. a lucious combination of 80% Blue Faced Leicester and 20% nylon, which will knit up into strong and gorgeous socks which are machine washable.

Next is their Merino DK, a 100% springy twist Merino that has been hand dyed using washfast and lightfast dyes and is also machine washable.

And lastly, is their ever- popular Sock Yarn, a 90% Super-wash wool combined with 10% nylon in some of the most gorgeous new colours that Hedgehog has ever created!

So, if any colour strikes your fancy, just let me know and I will gladly put it aside for you or mail it out,..

Happy Knitting,
Lynn

YARN INDULGENCES IS
COMING TO COLDWATER!!

Hi Everyone,

I am very excited to let you know that Deborah from Yarn Indulgences will be coming to The Purple Sock on Saturday  February 24th from 10 am to 3 pm to do a trunk show!

For anyone who hasn't been to a trunk show before, what happens is Deborah will
come to The Purple Sock  and set up with all her wonderful yarns at the back of my shop for you to look at, and get a chance to talk with her. I will also have tea and cookies for you as you shop.

So come on out and support a great dyer from Ontario!!
Below is some info she sent to me about herself and her yarns, and yes they are very yummy!!

"Yarn Indulgences offers affordable luxury; quality yarn is most important to my process.

Currently we have two lines, the Indulgent line is 100% British wool, the Zed line is Made in Canada.
My colours are as varied as I am.  I love creating new colours by mixing unlikely combinations.
Personally, I have worked in the floral industry, providing business support to florists for 20 years now, I can hardly believe it has been that long... I still enjoy that career and the inspiration that comes from flowers!
Most of all, I come from a generation of women who taught me all about knitting, crochet, sewing, and several other crafts.  My love of yarn is only surpassed by these women, my Mum, my Aunt, and my Nana."

I know  you will enjoy seeing her yarns, and I look forward to seeing you!

Happy Knitting,

Lynn
